Kosgoda being a coastal village located on the South Western stretch of the island, provides a very calm and relaxing atmosphere for holiday makers.
The area of Kosgoda is home to a population of nearly 3000 people. The area is now becoming one of the most vibrant tourist areas in Galle District in Sri Lanka. There are reasons for this, the beautiful beaches, Kosgoda Lagoon (perfect place for watching birds and boat trips) and the best place in the country to see Turtles and Turtle hatcheries. The area itself has a lot more to offer to visitors.
Kosgoda is famous for its sea turtle conservation projects. The hatcheries pay fishermen for eggs that they collect at night along the long sandy beach. Although October to April is the main laying season, some eggs (mostly green turtles) can be found at Kosgoda throughout the year.
The natural beach of Kosgoda with lots of plantlife ,less human activity and construction is unique for the area and ideal for sea turtle nesting. In addition, Kosgoda is considered as a protected area for sea turtle nesting and lots of activities undergo with the help of Police to prevent illegal activities which are harmful for sea turtles
